GROUNDING AND BONDING
The Grounding and Bonding Diagrams presented here are not an official project of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI), nor are they formal interpretations of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
This Committee offers these diagrams as helpful information on specific areas of the code. They are an excellent example of effective cooperation between government jurisdictions and a serving utility.
The diagrams were developed using a committee-consensus model so that every representative had an equal voice and the final interpretations were acceptable to all. The diagrams address locally normal installations and are considered representative of the predominance of what is usual and customary in our area. These diagrams support the position of both NFPA and IAEI that the NEC should be adopted without local amendments.
These diagrams identify specific grounding and bonding methods that should be an acceptable installation in every jurisdiction. However, these designs are not mandatory and may not be the only acceptable method of compliance. They are intended to reduce confusion among designers and installers about "what is acceptable" in our area. The hoped-for result of this type of pro-active, consensual interpretation will be an improved and easier path for installers, designers, and inspectors in this crucially important aspect of electrical safety
